Evening aboard the Eistla and Windmills:
During the cocktail hour we were briefed about the ship and out itinerary. We seem to be in a state of flux as to how many ship changes we will be making etc etc etc .
It is what it is, all is good.
For dinner Lynn had a honey glazed salmon and I chose the duck breast. Both were excellent and the wine was complimentary and it flowed freely. I had a crab with tuna tartare for an appetizer, and Lynn had an Amsterdam cheese Soufflé. We shared and both were excellent with a plus to the soufflé. Desert was a dark chocolate moose.
We later chatted with our cruise director Rob who is from Durban South Africa.
Time to get some sleep as I will probably
be up early.
Windmills are on the agenda at Kinderdijk..
We arrived in Kinderdijk and had a nice tour of the UNESCO site. Here they are keeping the windmills alive and actually working. We learned how the windmills are operated and insight as to daily life in these structures. I was amazed at the amount of engineering in these devices, as most were used to pump water so as to reclaim the land. The gears and cogs are made of various types of wood depending on their intended purpose.
We then spent the remaining part of the day sailing on the Waal river towards the Rhine.
We just finished a a nice Dutch Tea, coffee with Dutch treats, as with most cruising we have not wanted for sustenance.
I hope to see the Bridge at Nijmegen here shortly, but the day is about over.
