Windmills, Castles, Robber Barons, Christmas Markets And More.
Currently we are here in Denver spending the night and tomorrow (12/11/2015) we will be flying to Amsterdam. While in Amsterdam we will be staying at an Ibis hotel near the Central Train Station and exploring from there. Only real plan is an evening canal cruise, which will hopefully keep us awake thus helping us get used to a new time zone. We also have tickets for the Van Gogh museum. Other activities will be a self guided walking tour and simply wandering about the city. We will purchase a 2 day metro pass, giving us some flexibility in our exploring.
Then on 13/11/2015 we will board the Viking River Cruise ship, the Mimir. We will be sailing for 15 days on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers to our final destination of Budapest. Sailing past Holland’s windmills, then by Germany’s fairy-tale castles and the vineyards of Austria’s Wachau Valley, stopping in Vienna where we will find a Christmas market. Yes, we will sail past the Lorelei, avoiding the rocks. We disembark in Budapest then travel on to Prague. We will have much to explore in Prague.
Yes it will be off season and the weather may be iffy, but this for me will add to the experience. I think of mist and fog with castles on bluffs above the rivers we will sail. We will feel the winter as we visit a Christmas Market. It will be great.
We have sailed with Viking River Cruise when we were in China and enjoyed the total experience very much. Their return cruiser offer and their overall cost makes this a very reasonably priced experience.
We invite you to stay tuned for more as this journey progresses.
