TRAVELING TO EDINBURGH FROM LONDON

London to Edinburgh 8/2/2019

We were up early, so organized and packed our bags before breakfast. Our breakfast was included with our lodging at the IBIS Greenwich. We both had a very good ham and cheese Croque Monsieur.

Bags packed, we were off via the Docklands Light Rail (DLR) and Underground to Kings Cross to catch our train to Edinburgh. This journey took about an hour and we were nice and early. We collected our tickets and purchased some sandwiches for our lunch. Soon it was time to board.

Given the time of year the train was very crowded and getting to our seats was an epic journey. We were late leaving the station due to the crowding.

I am glad we have reserved seats, forward facing and at a table. People with open seating are not so lucky.

I must say the English countryside is beautiful, farm fields, herds of livestock, and villages. I really find the rail stations quite nostalgic in their architecture style.

Off the train, we gathered our bags and set out with Google Map in hand. We made it to our Ibis Hotel and got checked in and unpacked. Yes, it is still warm here and I was leaking (sweating) when we arrived.  We unpacked and checked email etc.

We then went for a walkabout just to get oriented to our local. We made our way to High Street/ Royal Mile and came across the visitors center. Got some great info and we purchased the Royal Edinburgh Ticket. We got the concessions rate (senior rate) of £50 pounds each. This get us two days of riding the Hop on Hop off bus routes and entrance into the Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Yacht Britannia, and The Palace of Hollyroodhouse.
We also learned of a short cut back to the Waverly Train Station.

LYNN LIKED THE PIGLET

From the Info Center, we next went to OINK. This is a roast pork sandwich shop I had learned about while doing our trip research and wanted to visit. I must say this is a place one must visit while in Edinburgh. Oink is easy to locate by the pink storefront and the whole roast hog in the window.  The sandwiches come in three sizes and various toppings. We bought a piglet, the smallest, and it was a nice snack for us to split. Upon a suggestion from the guys behind the counter we opted for the sage and onion spread along with apples (a chunky apple sauce). Simple and very very very very good. Don’t miss this place. https://www.oinkhogroast.co.uk

Being a warm day I was sweating profusely, so we stopped at a Tesco near our hotel for some crisps. (potato chips)

Time to hydrate and research tomorrows journey, to find the Holy Grail.
