Stavanger -
Europe’s Oil and energy capital. Old Stavanger has Europe’s best preserved wooden house settlement with more than 170 white wooden houses. The primary industry before oil was as a fishery cannery. The area was first settled 10,000 years ago and it is from here Vikings set forth on their seafaring expeditions.
Our plan today is to take a small boat to visit the Stavanger Archipelago to Lysefjord. Currently the weather is a tad cloudy but I feel and hope it may clear off. It did not as we experienced a “Troll Weather Day”. Troll Weather is rainy, misty, cloudy, damp kind of weather.
WE WERE GREETED BY A VIKING WHO MADE US WAFFLES
Although it was a day of Troll Weather we had a very informative cruise up Lysefjord.
When we returned to port we walked about Stavanger and found the Painted Street, where the buildings are brightly painted in many colors. This street is reported to be the most photographed street in Stavanger. I must say it is very colorful even on a troll weather day.
Also in Stavanger one can find many pieces of street art murals located all over the city.
Back to the ship for a relaxing evening as we start to think about the next port and our further journeys.
I should mention upon returning to our stateroom we found a certificate commemorating our sailing above the Arctic Circle. This is funny as we had been talking about what Disney Cruise Line Should do- and one item was produce such a certificate. We got a kick out of this, and, yes, it was a nice thing to receive. Well done, and remember, the ship has ears.
