OUR HURTIGRUTEN EXPEDITION STARTS:
As many of you are aware our Hurtigruten Expedition has hit a little bit of a bump. Our ship the MS Fram was delayed out of dry dock. As such the cruise which was to start on 26/5 was delayed to 29/5.
HX Expeditions by my account is adjusting the itinerary in a most positive manner. While we will miss some ports, we are being offered day trips from Reykjavik. We are receiving full board and drink coupons available to us for time we are awaiting to board the MS Fram. These things happen.
We are being lodged in the FossHotel Reykjavik, which is a very very nice property. Stand by and we will fill ya in on our extended days here in Reykjavik. Should be GREAT!
We were up early and did some final packing to make our bags ready to transfer to our new lodging.
After breakfast we checked out of Center City Plaza and had the front desk call a cab for us. There have been reports of less than stellar cab service. Our preferred and reliable service is Heyfill, as they are local, fair and very reliable.
When we arrived at Foss Hotel Reykjavik we found HX Expeditions had already set up with a welcoming desk.
We were their first arrivals and we were checked in quickly and learned our room was ready. We received a welcome package with meal vouchers and the daily allotment of 10 drink coupons.
We also received a couple real nice IceWear rain ponchos. These are a lot heavier than the Mouse ones Disney would pass out.
We went to our room and dropped off our bags and caught a bus to the pool.
We had a nice swim, soak, steam bath and did water aerobics to ABBA tunes.
Leaving the pool, we had our mandatory hot dog before catching the bus back into the older part of the city.
We found a very nice coffee shop where we had a coffee and cocoa while we waited for Reykjavik Ink to open.
I got a new tattoo at Reykjavik Ink, my go to tattoo parlor in Reykjavik. This is a traditional Thor’s Hammer design.
Thor's Hammer, also known as Mjolnir, is a powerful enchanted war hammer in Norse Mythology. It is primarily associated with the thunder god Thor, and in Norse mythology, Mjolnir is a symbol of strength, power, and protection. Mjolnir is also known for being able to bestow powers and abilities upon those deemed "worthy".
Leaving Reykjavik Ink we decided to walk back to the Foss Hotel. It was only about a kilometer away and it was not raining.
We had a very nice lunch in the Beer Garden restaurant. Here we met a fellow passenger while eating at the bar
Back in our room we unpacked a bit and relaxed as nothing is happening until dinner tonight from 1630 to 2030 followed by a meet and great with the Expedition Team at 2030.
More tomorrow:
