SNAEFELLSNESS KINDA DAY:
Here is a fast entry today, Lots to get together.
I can not express how well the change ofd our itinerary was handled by HX, yes they are my go to in oh so many ways.
Jumping ahead as this shot was a goal for today.
Kirkjufell mountain. Grundarfjörður's beautiful landmark is the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike. Kirkjufell (Church Mountain) is 463 meters high and visible from all angles in town.
First and foremost, I must say HX has gone above and beyond and then some to enhance the itinerary for this expedition.
After another great breakfast we got ourselves together for the day.
Today we will be bussed to the The Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This is a region in western Iceland known for its landscapes. I am sure if you have seen any advertisement for Iceland you have seen an image from this area. This is an area we have always wanted to visit but never had, so a new area for us.
I was told a long lens might be worth having as we will be encountering birdlife, and maybe an Arctic Fox as well as whales.
At its western tip, Snæfellsjökull National Park is where one finds Snæfellsjökull Volcano, which is topped by a glacier. Nearby, a trail leads through lava fields to black-pebble Djúpalónssandur Beach.
Simply, it was a grand a glorious day. The weather was perfect. The meals were excellent, the signs and scenery were amazing.
Exploring this area makes us want to return.
We had 45 min upon our return to get ready for dinner.
Dinner this evening was at the Harpa and our view was of the MS Fram.
Dinner was Arctic Char, Lamb roast and a White Chocolate Skyr Mousse dessert, all was excellent.
Back to the room to pack in preparation for our embarkation tomorrow.
Photo Dump to follow as as we are busy getting our luggage together.
