A DAY AT SEA SAILING NORTH:

A DAY AT SEA SAILING NORTH:

I awoke to very very calm seas sailing North above the Arctic Circle.

Sitting here in the Bistro having espresso watching the calm sea and fulmars fly past. I must get on deck after breakfast and try and get some images.

I must say I am reflecting on the most excellent calvados served last night.

The day will be filled with lectures and mandatory briefings about Zodiac operations. Yes we will be vacuuming our clothes for Biosecurity.

Least I forget the Arctic Circle Crossing Ceremony.

LOTS o Whales have been observed today. Humpback, Fin, Bottle Nose, BLUE WHALE. This is an AMAZING amount of activity.

Kittiwakes and Fulmars seem to be constantly around the ship.

Mandatory Arctic protocol briefing.

Great Sea Bird Lecture.

Next up is biosecurity, cleaning and vacuuming your clothes. Biosecurity refers to measures aimed at preventing the introduction or spread of harmful organisms  intentionally or unintentionally outside their native range or within new environments.

Then we back out on deck as we had more Blue Whales and Fin Whales.

We were then issued Muck boots which we will be wearing on our shore landings. I was surprised that these are the good super cold weather Muck Boots.

I will add that our food has been great.

Jan Mayen

tomorrow.
