ASWAN EGYPT

Day 7 Aswan

We sailed South up river and docked at Aswan. Aswan is a busy market and tourist destination, as it is here the north bound cruises start and where ours ends. It is very dry here as the last recorded rain was May 13, 2006, so many of the Nubian houses have very few roofs.

We boarded a bus and made our way to a local dock where we boarded a boat to ferry us to Agilkia Island where the Temple of Philae is located. As a result of the
old Aswan Dam this temple was moved in 2001 about a quarter mile to its present location. The move took eight years which is a feat only second to it’s construction. Here we find a temple to Isis.

Next we made a stop at a location where papyrus is made and artists do various paintings. We did make a purchase for a couple pieces to hang in The Adventures Club.

Then onto the Nubian Museum. The is a very well done museum laid out in a chronological order.

We returned to the boat and had a buffet lunch. I must say the food and service aboard the MS Mayfair has been great.

FOR ALL FOLKS WHO HAVE GONE ON A DISNEY CRUISE THERE IS NO “EXCELLENT” SPEACH, JUST EXCELLENT SERVICE.

In the late afternoon we walked along the waterfront to board a felucca, a wooden sailing boat which sails the Nile. This was a great experience sailing in this boat on the Nile, quiet and peaceful as the wind powered us up stream. The crew was friendly and had us all join in on a Nubian song, of which we had no idea as to what the lyrics meant.

Returning to our boat we settled our account, packed and readied ourselves for dinner and the evening.

Tomorrow we fly to Abu Simbel.

This has been an amazing experience.

Big Mac anyone ?
