Another fantastic day.
We started out again from our hotel walking to the JR train station and then transferring to the Tokyo metro to get to the Tokyo Great Cycling Tour office. We had coffee and a sandwich for breakfast before meeting the group for teh northern Route B tour. A father and daughter who were with us yesterday also returned today. There were folks from Louisiana, Finland, Denmark, and Australia.
Our first stop was at the location for the old Edo Bridge this was the entrance to the city during the time of the Shogun.
The next stop was at Old Town, Ningyo-Cho where we stopped at a confectionary shop. From there we rode to a local park to enjoy the treats. The treats were various items like red beans , chestnuts , or apricots wrapped in a soft chewy rice dough shell. On teh ride to teh park we stopped by a Sumo training stable. These are locations where the Sumo wrestlers live and train. It was interesting to learn that Sumo wrestlers do not eat pork or beef, but prefer chicken. The reason being that a pig and cow walk on 4 feet. In Sumo if one is put in the position of all 4’s on teh ground they loose. So out od superstition they prefer chicken as they stand on two legs.
Next we went to the Ryogoku , Sumo Stadium. Here we learned that there are only three times a year there are Sumo Tournaments. Each of these last 15 days, so for a year there are only 45 days for one to compete in Sumo.
From there we made our war to the Asakusa Area for lunch. We went to a shopping food court bazaar where we were allowed to pick what we wanted. Lynn and I shared some fish, crab rolls and rice alls. All was great. The location where we ate was the rooftop of the shopping building. From the roof we were provided a great view of the Tokyo Sky Tree.
After lunch was finished we went to shrine and temple near to Ueno Park. From there we rode through Ueno Park. A beautiful park with trees , open areas, lakes and more shrines and temples.
Our route the took us the Tokyo Universtiy and it’s tree lined streets. Much of the day was spent riding on the narrow back streets.
We the made our way back to teh Imperial Palace. Same as we and had seen yesterday.
Back at the TGCT we were provided beer and other cold beverages.
We had again arranged to meet our friend Kazuko. We first went to theTokyo Tower and enjoyed views of Tokyo at night. From there we took a Taxi Cab to a local sushi restaurant. It was simply fantastic. I am amazed at the quality of the fish.
Next we walked to the Ginza an upper end Shopping area.
We then made out way back to our local train station for the short walk to our hotel.
We purchased our admission media, tickets, for the next three days. When you get a multi day passport you must declare which park you wish to visit on the first and second days. Then the third day one can park hop between Disneyland and Disney Seas.
Really tired again after a fun amazing day.
Tokyo Disneyland tomorrow, and the Typhoon might start rolling in tomorrow night. Will just roll with it, as they are calling for rain and wind.
Really tired and am fading fast.
