Denver to Cape Town, Mighty Long Bunch of Airplane Rides
Tuesday we started in Denver and flew to Frankfurt, about a 9 hour plus flight. The Flight was full so no upgrades. We did have the exit door seats, so plenty of leg room. With the help of some Ambien, we did get a little sleep.
Arrived in Frankfurt at about 1000 hours and had till 2215 hrs for the next flight. Luckily, we have lounge access and that did help.
Flight from Frankfurt to Cape Town was also full so no upgrade, but the seating was 2-4-2 and we had a 2 together. We both had a hard time sleeping and arrived in a zombie like state. Well, not that bad initially.
Just a couple days before leaving we learned South Africa was requiring a QR code to verify one’s vaccine status. No test required if fully vaccinated. We did obtain a QR code from Clear. There were many stories floating about saying the Clear code was not accepted nor was the white CDC card accepted. So we also got PCR tests and Rapid Antigen tests done and brought our letter of recovery from Antarctica. We also carry Yellow Cards from WHO and CDC.
Upon arrival we turned in our health entry forms, and were asked about Vaccine Status. I pulled out my stack o paperwork and the gentleman and I both laughed and he said “You’re Good To Go”.
As this is an Adventures By Disney trip, a driver met us and we were transported off to The Table Bay Hotel. We will be here for 6 nights. This is a very very nice property and we stayed here 10 years ago. Our driver was great and we had an excellent conversation about the history and food of South Africa.
We checked in and were off to our room. Fearful that if we stopped we would not get up, we headed out for a bite. The Ferryman’s Irish Tavern won having been there before. We had a very large piece of hake and calamari strips with chips.
Scored some beef Biltong (South African jerky) and some South African chocolate on the way back to the hotel. Time for a nap and laundry and will head back to the Ferryman’s for a craic.
Watched the sunset and then to the Ferryman for some music and drinks. We enjoyed the music, I had a couple different ciders and Lynn had a ginger beer. Need to get in the local time zone groove.
No set plans for the day tomorrow, so we shall see what the day brings. Sleeping in a bed sounds sooooo gooood right now.
Looking forward to Breakfast here at The Table Bay, if it is 1/2 the size as last visit it will still be a sight to behold.
