LONDON TO DOVER

London to Dover-

We were up early with a bit of packing up to be done. Feeling somewhat organized we had our final Royal Garden breakfast, which I must say is a very nice breakfast with many choices. Their bacon is very good, as well as their porridge (cooked with milk). After breakfast we finished packing and started our journey to Dover.

We start at the High Street Kensington by taking the Circle Line to Westminster where we change to the Jubilee Line to get us to London Bridge Rail Station. Being a Saturday, things seemed rather quiet compared to peak travel times.

I believe this is our first time traveling out of London Bridge Station, and I very much like it. The platforms are posted about one hour before departure and there is no rush to board the train. Our fare to Dover is £6.50 per person with our rail card and an advanced purchase. If one were to have purchased the ticket today the fare would have been £27 pounds.

The train is relative empty as there are only about 12 passengers in our car. This makes finding space for our luggage easy and our carry on bags have a seat to themselves.

The journey to Dover takes us through the country side, past farms with hedge rows, small villages, and pastures with livestock. This is not an express route so we make a few stops and the journey takes about 1 hour 40 minutes.
We arrived to “Blue Skies Over” in Dover and made our way to Blake’s. To be very honest, it very much felt like coming home. Warm greetings were exchanged and we caught up with folks. I can not recommend this establishment enough.

Steak and Ale Pie

Might have to follow this some day

Look Lynn Found Poundland, great place for those little things one needs.

While in London, we found many of the pub locations have gone to gastro style menus. I had been wanting a pie and had no luck in finding one in London. We arrive at Blake’s and learn Jeanette is making steak and ale pies. I will not have to look at a menu this evening.

I honestly can not say enough good about Blakes of Dover, such a warm welcoming place. Yes, it feels like home.

We did a walkabout and visited Poundland store and M&S for various supplies and gifts.

I am thinking about a return to Dover and do even more walking along the cliffs.

We had an excellent Steak and Ale Pie and walked about to let our meal settle. Later in the evening we return to the cellar pub where there was a gentleman playing the blues, and he was very very good. We mixed and mingled here at what I will call my home in Dover.

This morning we will be having coffee in the room and will walk to the ship. So this will be my last post till we get to Canada.
