SAGUENAY THE BEST PORT WELCOME EVER !!!!!!!

9/29 Saguenay

We arrived to such a greeting as we had never seen before in any of our port arrivals. Many of the local folks came to greet us in period attire, singing, and dancing to welcome us. They offered the best blueberry pie, maple candy, blueberry juice we have ever had.

The town is small and has a good number of specialty shops, not the typical shops usually found in cruise ports.

We had planned our own walking tour which took us to a local church, craft market, and the city streets.

There is a nice fjord on the way into Saguenay, but we did not see any of the Beluga Whales who live in this fjord.

On our way out, the community of Petit Saguenay provided a great fireworks show.

As I said, we never have felt more welcome in a port of call.

We are noticing the fall foliage changing on a daily basis.

Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay

Overlooking the Saguenay from Cap Trinité since 1881, the Virgin Mary statue was commissioned by Charles Napoléon Robitaille, a local salesman who prayed for the Virgin Mary’s help when he fell through the ice on the river. Nine meters (30 feet) tall, the wooden statue is covered with painted lead, which had steadily eroded over the years prior to the statue's restoration in 2008. Gleaming high upon the cliffs, it remains vigilant to ensure the safe passage of all exploring the river.
