9/28 Last Day in Quebec City :
This was our last day here in Quebec City and we had a few areas we wanted to explore. After breakfast we gathered our gear for the day and headed out.
First we hiked up to the Citadel de Quebec. This is the largest active fortress in Canada, and as such, one must be escorted onto the base. The Citadel is home to the Royal 22 Regiment, a battle tested unit which had received 44 citations, These engagements spanned from WWI to Afghanistan. The 22nd is/was the only French speaking regiment in the Canadian Army. This came to be as to recognize the French heritage of the Canadians.
The Citadel was built high on the hill at a defensive position to protect the St. Lawrence Seaway. It’s construction was started by the French, and continued by the British after their victory at the nearby Plains of Abraham.
yep an up hill hike

One must not forget the Citadel was also established to protect Canada from invasion from the US forces in the later 1700’s and early 1800’s.
During the summer there is a changing of the guard, which would be interesting to observe.
From the Citadel, we walked by the Le Chateau Frontenac, the iconic hotel which serves as a landmark for Quebec City. This hotel was built in 1924. Historically it is best known for hosting two historic conferences in 1943 and 1944, between FDR, Churchill and Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King.
Lynn was looking for a Canada Parks t-shirt she had seen on another outing. Sadly they did not have her size so we were off to an other location.
From there we made our way to the Marche du Vieux-Port, a farmers market. Here we found some Cerises de Terre (ground cherry) jam and some ice wine.
The weather for the morning was mostly overcast and one item we wished to do was take a ferry to Levis. Levis is an area located on the south side of the seaway, where views of Quebec City are reported to be quite nice. The sun had made an appearance and we sailed on the ferry across the seaway. Yes the views are quite nice and we spent a bit of time in a local park enjoying the sunny weather, and a donut from Tim Horton’s (no Timbits this late in the day). We then boarded the ferry and returned to our ship.

We have been seeing a lot of Huskies here
That night we cast off and started sailing to Saguenay.
