Egypt 2017:
Soon we will be traveling to Egypt and traveling with Viking River Cruises. Egypt has been on our travel list for many many years and delayed a couple times due to world situations.
In preparation for this trip we have been doing our normal guidebook and internet research as well as watching a series of lectures from The Great Courses. If one is planning a trip to Egypt I highly recommend the Great Courses series of lectures.
We will be arriving a couple days early so we can explore a bit of Cairo before we start touring with Viking. The Egyptian Museum seems to be a location we will want to visit a couple times. The Great Courses has made us aware of some of the exhibits there which we may have not paid any attention. I am looking forward to finding many of these these artifacts.
When one thinks of Egypt, thoughts turn to Pyramids, The Sphinx, and Mummies. What our research has opened my mind to is how many firsts are rooted in Egyptian History. Many think a lot of our civilization was inspired by the Greeks, yet the Greeks were inspired by the Egyptians. Many, many, myths have been debunked and much has been learned, so much I know I have not digested it all. When I visit a location the pretrial research comes together with many “now this makes sense” moments.
The fact the Nile flows South to North can mess with the mind. Going up the Nile is traveling south and down the Niles is traveling North.
Again we will be packing light as inter-Egypt flights are limited by baggage and carry on restrictions. We are pretty good at packing for such situations and will also scale down camera gear to make it work.
From Egypt we fly to Jordan to visit Petra and more.
We ready to see a new part of the world and thanks to one and all who follow along.
Will update entries as we can while on this journey, as we can.
