DENVER TO SEATTLE

DEN to SEATAC

We got packed up and took The Boys to Puppy Camp and they were really excited to be there. The Boys are very social and this is a good social opportunity for them. They were in an open area with their tail held high checking out the other campers.

We then drove to DEN and are at a Ramada near the airport. Nice place and a nicely appointed room, bed couch, microwave and a mini fridge.  Our flight is early tomorrow so we will be up and at um early. I know it is crazy but I like getting to the airport with lots of time to spare, plus the UAL club make it workable.

6/3 -  Lynn was up early and we got ourselves together and headed to the airport. As we checked in we learned there was a delay on our flight. So we will just chill here at the UAL Club.  Boarded flight and we were off to SEA on an uneventful flight, yet the highlight was our approach into SEATAC. It was a simply gorgeous day, clear skies and Mt. Rainer was out in all it’s splendor.

At SEATAC we gathered our bags and followed the signs to the Light Link Rail. Purchased our tickets via the vending machines and for $3.00 we were on our way to Downtown Seattle. From the Westlake station we had a 1.5 block walk to The Roosevelt Hotel. This is an older but newly renovated hotel located downtown Seattle.  A quick check in and we were in the room to drop our bags and hit the streets. This is a pretty good location as it is about a 10-15 minute walk to Pike Place Market.

At Pike Place Market, we arrived in time to see a salmon fly, LOL. Here the fish mongers are known for tossing whole fish at the Pike Place Fish Market.  In the mid 1980’s the fish market was not doing well so the crew thought of tossing the fish as a gimmick to bring folks in to purchase the fish. In 1990 the Good Will Games were held in Seattle and a news crew picked up on the flying tossed fish, and the rest is history.

We then found a restaurant and had a very nice tuna sandwich for lunch.  Sitting in the restaurant we noticed the Washington State Ferries sailing in and out of the ferry terminal. The Washington State Ferries has always been a favorite of mine so we made our way to the Terminal and bought a ticket to Bremerton, Washington. At the ferry terminal we split a huckleberry ice cream sandwich, very good and very large. We enjoyed a really beautiful day in Seattle with great temperature and sunny blue skies. This is a fun way to spend three hours sailing over and back, watching the gulls glide effortlessly above the ferry. Mt. Rainer was visible as we sailed to Bremerton.

Seeing Mt. Rainer was kinda nostalgic for me as in the mid 1970’s I had worked there for two seasons. I have many great memories of climbing and hiking some great trails.

We then headed back to the hotel and opted for a meal at a nearby deli. We split an empanada and got a deli sandwich to go for later.

Back at the room we repacked and did a bit of laundry and will be hitting the hay early as we have a 0500 wake up and then a ride to the King Street station for our rail trip to Vancouver, BC.

  1. Oh so jealous. We love Seattle and have stayed at the Roosevelt, lived in Bremerton in Don's Navy days and actually took that ferry in 1968 to visit the site of the World's Fair a few years prior. Got your senior discount on the light rail? Tell us how the train works to Vancouver. We were going to take it back at the end of a cruise but hitched a ride back to Seattle.
