Floreana:
We started the morning at 0600 for a zodiac ride into a beach where we went on a very very short hike. We observed American Oyster Catchers, Flamingos, and Pin Tail ducks. The destination was a beach where Green Sea Turtles nest. The nests are huge and to see the tracks from where they arrive and leave shore is amazing. Among the nests were a few Sea Lions lying about. We were able to see a pair of Green Sea Turtles mating. Also got some pictures of Sally Lightfoot Crabs and Blue Footed Boobies.
Back to the boat for breakfast.
After breakfast we did a zodiac ride to the island where we will be snorkeling later today.
On this island we saw swallow tailed gulls, the Floreana Mocking bird, some blue footed boobies and frigate birds and a tropic bird. After the zodiac ride we were back to the boat for a quick change into snorkeling gear.
At the island we entered the water and immediately noted a great number of fish.
The water was a bit cool but we enjoyed the experience a bunch.
After we got out, it was back to the boat for lunch.
This afternoon there was a lecture on Charles Darwin which was very very very well done.
The boat was repositioned to the Post Office Bay. This is a postal system which was started many years ago by the first sailors to the area. Letters are placed into the mail barrel and should you see a letter you can deliver back at ones home, you you carry the letter home to be hand delivered. Several folks in our group took letters to be delivered. None from Wyoming. No postage stamp needed.
This is one of the locations where Darwin landed during his 5 weeks in the Galapagos.
After dropping our post cards we opted for a zodiac ride. Here we visited the a mangrove area, seeing eagle rays, heron, terns, Blue Footed Boobies, frigate birds, white tip sharks, Franklin gulls, etc etc etc .
We returned to the ship and the bar was open on the sky deck. We enjoyed cocktails as the sun set.
Great recap this evening with Photo session on White Balance.
