To start with, a file folder is created for each trip. We have a small file cabinet where we keep all of our travel plan files. These are files are organized by the most current trip towards the front of the file cabinet.
The first page of each file folder has our Trip Planning Check List.
TRIP CHECK LIST
Date of Trip and Info:_________________________________________
The Where and When
Action Date Res Made: Res #: $$
Dog Boarding (Puppy Camp)
Parking Spot (this is where we park in DEN, reservations are good to have during holiday times)
Denver Hotel (in the event of an early morning flight)
Air Res (reservation Locator and dates of travel)
Car Rental/Shuttle
Hotel Res (res # etc etc)
Cruise Res
Event Res (special tour like biking in Beijing or Tickets for Monty Python Live)
WDW Special Tickets
Mail and Paper Stop
Just a handy form for us to make sure the basics are covered. Depending on the trip we may add an additional heading. i.e. lawn care. One can modify as needed.
Usually with in an hour of making the initial trip reservation commitment we have locked in the flight reservation, parking reservation, hotel res, rental car etc. As the email confirmations are received they are printed and placed into the Trip File.
As we get closer to the trip, the travel file is converted to a travel folder or a three ring notebook depending on the trip. Walt Disney World and Disneyland trips are easy.
Next up we start the research.
I also start with a folder for each trip then move them to a travel folder/binder for the trip. For Europe I also picked up a zippered plastic envelope to make it easier to carry each day's necessary paperwork. Confirms, maps, rail info, etc.
