SAILING AWAY DAY:
Not today as it is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and is known as “The Gateway to the Fjords”, and some believe that Bergen is the most beautiful city in Norway.
The city is also the gateway to the Hardangerfjord. Many scenic fjord cruises leave from Bergen.
Mt Fløien and Fløibanen Funicular, (Yesterday the Funicular was very very busy with a long line) the UNESCO World Heritage protected Bryggen in Bergen and the composer Edvard Grieg’s home Troldhaugen are three of the main attractions in Bergen.
Bryggen, in Bergen, since 1979 has been on UNESCO´s list of World Cultural Heritage Sites. Bryggen is a series of wooden houses along Bergen Harbour, originating from the Hanseatic (German) activities in Bergen from around year 1350.
We are up early having coffee in the room and will soon have an early breakfast. It took a bit to get to sleep last night, I think it is the excitement of sailing north for me.
A bit about Hurtigruten:
Since 1893,Hurtigruten has been the lifeblood of the Norwegian coast. A household name loved by locals for decades. The route they founded binds the country together, transporting people, delivering goods, and sustaining communities.
With 130 years of showing guests the wonders of the coast on the route they know as the best, their iconic journey has become known across the globe as ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Voyage’. I must agree.
I had arranged an Uber to transfer us to terminal at 1000. So we will have plenty of time to have a leisurely breakfast and get our bags packed.
Packed and ready to go, we were down stairs waiting for our Uber. We get notified he was very close and ready for us. We arrived at the Hurtigruten Terminal a couple minutes after 1000.
Yes Drinks Are Included Lunch The Departure Lounge Oh the line, 400 onboard out of 500 cap
We got in line for check-in and were soon in the departure lounge. Next was the safety drill which they do inside via a video in four different languages. Then off to passport control and boarded the ship. First stop was reception and requested to be on a list for a suite should one become available, place a card on our stateroom account and start a load of laundry. Then to the expedition desk to learn one excursion we wanted to do was not running at this time.
Then down to the dining room where we tried to change our dining time to an earlier seating. We will see what we get in the morning.
The we had a very nice lunch and Lynn checked the laundry.
I walked by deck 6 where our room is located and the barrier is down so I placed our bags in our room and found Lynn. We unpacked and will soon be off for sail away.
We enjoyed the warm sun on Deck 8 with a glass of Prosecco as we enjoyed sailing away from Bergen.
We watched the ship welcome in our room as we finished unpacking.
1800 is dinner but I think we will choose to eat at Brasserie Arran tonight.
I will do my best to keep the bold updated daily.
Our room and the unpacking in progress :)
