REYKJAVIK DAY 2
Today we had scheduled a CityWalk Reykjavik Exclusive VIP Walk. This tour is a small group walking tour and ends with a traditional lamb soup in a cozy local restaurant.
On our first visit to Iceland, we took the CityWalk Reykjavik Free Walking Tour. We were very impressed with the knowledge and demeanor of the guides and their presentation was simply excellent. Thus on this trip we opted for the VIP walk, so as to get the lamb soup. We were not disappointed in any way. All was EXCELLENT!!!!
We had a great lunch at Reykjavik Street Food, some opted for fish dishes while I went for the yummy lamb soup.
Then we were off to the Maritime Museum in the Old Harbor area.
The survival of the Icelandic nation depended on generations of brave fishermen heading into the unknown. Over the centuries, traditional methods of catching and working with fish transformed into a science that helped create and maintain a modern society.
The museum’s exhibitions and artifacts bring our ocean history to life, from battling the waves, to the ‘Cod Wars’, and beyond.
To get an additional feel for Iceland one should visit the National Museum. This museum offers a variety of fascinating exhibitions and is a permanent display illustrating the story of Iceland’s past, from the medieval days of Viking settlements to current contemporary culture. It is well worth a visit.
We then found a geocache hidden in the rocks and make our way to the University Library. My good friend is a retired librarian and libraries are a must visit.
Since there is a pool close by, we head out for a swim. The hot-dog stand near this pool has changed into a hamburger stand and they produce a good burger.
All relaxed we head back to the apartment and call it a night. It was a nice long day.
